Okay. We have one pear, one apple, one banana. When I talk about the grapes (grapes – has an -s: many), the question is not “What’s this?” What are these? The answer? (Когда мы говорим о множественном числе — grapes – вопрос звучит иначе).
-Grapes.
-They’re/These are grapes. What are these?
-These are grapes.
-And what are these?
-These are a banana.
-Aha. A and an is for one. If I have bananas, you don’t need an article.
—They are banana. (Обратите внимание, что Наташа допустила ошибку: нужно сказать о нескольких бананах, bananas).
-These are bananas. Okay. Let’s not talk about fruits, let’s talk about vegetables. Do you know vegetables? What’s this?
-This is a cucumber.
-What is this?
-This is a potato.
-You ask me.
-What is this?
-It’s an onion. This is an onion. Remember we had grapes. What are these? These are grapes. What are these?
-These are carrots.
-Ask me.
-What are these?
-These are onions.
Дайте ответы на вопросы. Я буду спрашивать What are these?/Что это? (во множественном числе). Вы отвечаете These are… — и называете овощи.
What are these? — These are potatoes.
What are these? — These are carrots.
What are these? — These are cucumbers.
What are these? — These are onions.
Давайте систематизируем то, что мы знаем о двух вопросах: What’s this?/What are these? В то же время будьте внимательны: возможно, вы услышите новые для себя названия фруктов и овощей.

-It’s a pepper. Are peppers fruit or vegetables?
-Vegetables. What is this?

-This is a lemon.
-What are these?
-They are lemons.
-Okay. You can say “They are lemons.” But listen to my question. “What are these?”
-These are lemons.
-One lemon – many lemons. Good.
