Еще один урок для начинающих. Послушайте разговор Дженнифер и Наташи.
— Natasha, to talk about days we don’t say one, two, three, twenty-nine. We say first, second, third… twenty-ninth. They’re different numbers, right? So when we talk about dates, we use different numbers. We say first (1st), second (2nd), third (3rd). Do you know these numbers? (Когда мы говорим о датах, мы употребляем не one, а first и так далее).
— Yes.
— Oh, you do. Good. So soon it will be March first, March second, March third and so on. Let’s practice these numbers. Okay? When we learn dates, when we talk about dates, we need to say these numbers. Let’s practice. Listen and repeat.
1st – first
2nd – second
3rd – third
4th – fourth
5th – fifth
So you see 5? We change the V to an F. (В этом слове буква V меняется на букву F).
6 – sixth
7 – seventh
8 – eighth
9 – ninth
You see? We lost the E. When we say nine, we spell n-i-n-e. Ninth – we do not have an E. (Буква Е выпадает).
10th – tenth
11th – eleventh
12th – twelfth
Here and here. We don’t have a V. We have an F.
13th – thirteenth
For all the -teens, we just add the TH: thirteenth, forteenth, fifteenth, sixteenth, seventeenth, eighteenth, nineteenth, twentieth. Twentieth – instead of a Y we have an I. The Y changes to an I: twentieth. And the same thing will happen for 30, 40, 50 … on up to 90. So listen: twentieth, thirtieth… For dates we only go up to 30. We might have March 30 (thirtieth), March 31 (thirty-first), for example. We might have March 22 (twenty-second), April 23 (twenty-third). So you can combine “twenty” with these numbers. But let’s practice from 20 to 90, because those numbers have this ending: IETH. Let’s do 20 to 90. Listen: twentieth, thirtieth, fortieth, fiftieth, sixtieth, seventieth, eightieth, ninetieth. (Обратите внимание на произношения окончания этих числительных).
