Let’s use the verb eat. Because I see this cake, and I want to eat! But we are not eating right now. Right? I am not eating right now.

Let’s make negative sentences. I am not eating. Not is the negative form. Right? We mean no. Are you eating? — No, I’m not eating. (Давайте образуем отрицательные предложения. Я не ем сейчас. Not – отрицание).

So let’s practice making negative sentences. Okay? For example… I am not eating [subject + BE + not + (verb with -ing / present participle)]. (Итак, давайте попрактикуемся в образовании отрицательных предложений. Например, I am not eating [подлежащее + BE + not + (глагол с -ing)]

What’s the sentence for you? You are not eating. He is not eating. She is not eating. We are not eating. They are not eating. No one is eating. How sad!

When Americans talk, Americans do not say, “I… am… not… eating.” It’s slow, and it’s… too many words. Americans speak fast. And words combine – sounds go together. So I will say, I am not eating = I’m not eating. So I am = I’m. Help me make sentences. (Когда говорят американцы, они не произносят так I… am… not… eating. Это медленно, и слишком много слов. Американцы говорят быстро. И слова соединяются — звуки сливаются).

You are not eating. — You‘re not eating.

He is not eating. — He’s not eating.

She is not eating. — She’s not eating.

We are not eating. — We’re not eating.

They are not eating. — They’re not eating.

Those are the two hard ones: We’re not eating. They’re not eating.

Again, no one is eating the cake. When you speak, you can say: you’re, he’s, she’s. Or there’s another way. There are two ways. Sometimes Americans say, “You’re not eating.” Sometimes Americans say, “You aren’t eating.” are not = aren’t. So now we take the verb BE and not and put it together. Now we try you are not eating > you aren’t eating. (Существует два варианта сокращения: you’re not eating и you aren’t eating).

Видеоурок:  Двуобъектные глаголы: понимание двойных объектов в английском языке

He is not eating. — He isn’t eating.

She is not eating. — She isn’t eating.

We are not eating. — We aren’t eating.

They are not eating. — They aren’t eating.

Excellent! Again no one is eating… not yet. So when you listen… when people speak, you can hear both – You aren’t eating / You‘re not eating. It’s the same. Your ears must understand. It’s tricky. (Вы должны научиться на слух распознавать эти сокращенные фразы).

Упражнение

Преобразуйте положительную форму глагола в отрицательную. Давайте работать вместе.

  1. They are baking cookies. / They’re baking cookies.

Какой же будет отрицательная форма? Давайте используем сокращенный вариант: They’re not baking cookies. По-другому: They aren’t baking cookies.

В дальнейшем выполняйте упражнение в этом же порядке, проверяйте себя по видео.

Обратите внимание на №6: для местоимения 1 лица единственного числа I существует только одна краткая негативная форма.

  1. I am not making coffee. / I’m not making coffee. В отрицательном предложении — только одна возможность сокращения: I’m not making coffee.

Чтение. Прочитайте вместе со мной. Работайте в таком порядке: сначала просто послушайте, потом слушайте по одному предложению, делайте паузу и повторяйте за мной, наконец попробуйте прочитать вместе со мной.

What’s happening?

Jennifer and Natasha are having a lesson. They aren’t studying with a book or at a table. See? The women are talking in the kitchen.

Natasha is telling Jennifer about the cake. It’s an apple cake. Natasha isn’t looking at Jennifer. Natasha is cutting a piece of cake for her friend.

Jennifer isn’t laughing, but she’s smiling. She enjoys good food and good conversation.

Всего доброго!
