—        Yes.

—        This is… What is this code? This is the alphabet. Let’s say the alphabet together, okay? (Давай произнесем алфавит вместе)

—        Okay.

—        Listen and repeat. A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z. (Наташа повторяет каждую букву. Обратите внимание на название последней буквы — Z).

—        I have a question. I – A…

—        Aha… they sound the same. A – I. Okay, listen. [eɪ] – [aɪ].  [eɪ] is long, [aɪ] is long. But [aɪ] open more,  [eɪ] is a little more closed. Watch my mouth:  [eɪ] – [aɪ]. Do you see the difference? (Они звучат похоже и поэтому путаются.  [eɪ] –  долгий звук, [aɪ] — тоже долгий. Но  [eɪ] – более открытый, [aɪ] немного закрытее. Слышишь разницу?)

—        Yes.  [eɪ] – [aɪ].

—        Right. These are big letters. There are big letters and small letters. In English we say upper case and lower case. We are going to practice upper case and lower case. (Это большие буквы. Существуют большие и маленькие буквы. По-английски: верхний регистр и нижний регистр. Дальше мы отработаем верхний и нижний регистр).

I know you have three children. Let’s talk about their ages. When we talk about age, the question is , “How old…” and then we’re going to use the verb to be:(когда речь идет о возрасте, вопрос начинается так: How old…, а потом прибавляем форму глагола to be).

How old is he? How old is she? How old are they? How old are you?

And when you answer, the answer is just…

He is (He’s…), She is (She’s…), I’m (I am…) + age.

So for example, you have three children. Two girls and one boy. Tell me about your son. How old is he?

—        She is… (обратите внимание, что Наташа ошибается: ее спросили о нем, а не о ней).

—        How old is he?

—        He is five.

—        So you can say, “He’s five” or “He’s five years old.” He’s five. Okay. You have two daughters. How old are they?

—        They… they…

—        You can say one… and the other..., right? Because they are not the same. How old are they? One is… One girl is… (Нужно сказать одна и другая, поскольку они не одного возраста).

—        One girl is three years old. The other… she is twenty.

—        Twenty. She’s older.

—        I’m…

—        Do you want to say? Maybe it’s a secret. Do you know “secret”? I say: I’m over thirty. My age is a secret. (Мне за тридцать).

—        My age… It’s a secret.

—        I’m over thirty. You can say, you are over thirty. We’re over thirty. Natasha, can you ask me about my children?

—        How old…. Do you have children?

—        Yes, I do.

—        How old are they?

—        My son is six. My daughter is four.

В этом уроке мы научимся называть время. Послушайте разговор Дженнифер и Наташи.

—        Natasha, do you wear a watch? (Наташа, носишь ли ты часы? — спрашивает Дженнифер. Обратите внимание, что тут речь идет о часах, которые носятся на себе: watch).

—        I don’t have a watch.

—        I don’t have a watch either. To tell time, I look at my cell phone. See? It’s nine forty-eight. Do you look at your cell phone?

—        No, I look around.

—        You look around. Do you have clocks in every room? (clock – те часы, которые находятся в комнате: на стене, на столе и так далее).

—        Yes.

—        Oh, you do. So you look at the clock. I look at my cell phone. When I work at the computer, I look at the clock on the computer… a lot. So we now are going to practice telling time.

Telling time

—        When you want to know the time, what’s the question?

—        What time is it?

—        What time is it? And, of course, if you ask a stranger, you would say, “Excuse me. What time is it?” All right. Let’s start with easy times. If I write… like this… 9.00.

—        Nine o’clock?

—        Nine o’clock.

—        It’s nine a.m.?

—        Good. Okay. It’s nine o’clock, and right now it’s morning. So we can say it’s nine a.m. because a.m means “in the morning”. What if I change it to p.m? What does that mean?

—        In the evening. So if it’s nine p.m., it’s evening. If it’s nine a.m., it’s morning. So right now you can say, “It’s nine o’clock.” “It’s around nine o’clock.” Very good. Let’s change this – 9 : 15.  What time is it? (утреннее время обозначается буквами a.m., вечернее p.m.).

—        It’s nine fifteen.

—        Very good. The easiest way to answer the question is… nine-fifteen. But do you know another way?

—        Quarter past nine.

—        Good. You say past. Sometimes people say after. It doesn’t matter (можно сказать past или after, это не имеет значения). So the easiest answer is nine-fifteen. But you can also say, “It’s quarter past nine” or “It’s quarter after nine.” If you look at the clock, for the first half we use past and after. Let’s change it to 9 : 25. What time is it?

—        It’s nine twenty-five.

—        It’s nine twenty-five or twenty-five past nine. So there are different ways you can answer. I could say it’s nine-ten or ten past nine, ten after nine. Let’s change this to 9 : 30.

—        It’s nine-thirty.

—        Yes. Nine-thirty. But do we say “thirty past”?

—        No. Half past.

—        Very good. Because it’s half the clock. We say, “Half past nine.” With half past nine we do not say “after”. (половина часа — мы употребляем только past: half past…). It’s half past nine. It’s nine-thirty. Since we’re still talking about this half…. how would you read this 9 : 08? What time is it?

—        It’s nine-o-eight.

—        We don’t really write this. We say it (мы не пишем, а только говорим так). It’s nine-o-eight. Or it’s eight after… You can say, “It’s a little after nine.” Now let’s talk about this half. 9 : 45. What time is it?

—        It’s nine forty-five.

—        Good.

Понятно ли вам это? Мы используем past для первой части часа. Например, 9.15 — это fifteen/quarter past nine/quarter after nine.

Мы используем to для второй части часа. Например, 9.45 – quarter to ten/quarter till ten.

 

—        And of course there are two important times you cannot confuse, 12 : 00 p.m. and 12 : 00 a.m. What time is this?

—        Noon.

—        Very good. It’s noon. And this?

—        It’s midnight. When you’re sleeping (I hope!). What time is it? In’s noon. It’s midnight. Let’s try with a clock. This is not my clock. Is this your clock? Whose clock is this?

—         It’s my son’s clock.

—        Can we use it?

—        Yes.

—        You know, this shows seconds… minutes… hours (обратите внимание, Дженнифер показывает стрелки, о которых говорит). 10 : 00. What time is it?

—        Ten o’clock.

—        10 : 15. What time is it?

—        Ten fifteen.

—        10 : 30. What time is it?

—        Ten thirty. Or half past ten.

—        10 : 45. What time is it?

—        Ten forty-five. Or quarter to nine.

—        If it’s ten forty-five, it’s quarter to eleven. Let’s try this. It’s eleven o’clock. 11 : 05. What time is it now?

—        Eleven-o-five.

—        Very good. Or five after eleven. 11 : 20. What time is it?

—        Eleven twenty.

—        11 : 30. What time is it?

—        Eleven half past?

—        Eleven thirty or half past eleven. 11 : 55. What time is it?

—        Eleven fifty-five.

—        Very good. Or we can say “five to twelve.” What about this (11 : 50)?

—        Ten to twelve.

—        12 : 02 / 12 : 03? It’s around twelve. It’s a little after twelve. And this 12 : 58 / 12 : 59? A little before… You say, “It’s almost one o’clock.”

  1. What time is it? It’s three o’clock.

  4. What time is it? It’s almost two o’clock.
  5. What time is it? It’s about ten thirty / It’s about half past ten.
  6. What time is it? It’s five-o-two. Вы помните, что мы не пишем «ou», мы только говорим так.
  7. What time is it? It’s five forty-two / It’s about quarter to six / It’s about quarter till six.
  8. What time is it? It’s around eleven fifteen / It’s about quarter past eleven / It’s about quarter after eleven.

—        Hi. This is going to be you. You are the mother. This is the father. And they have children. This is a boy. This is a girl. Here’s the son. And this is the daughter. I have one son and one daughter. How about you?

—        I have one son and two daughter (вы слышите, что Наташа допускает ошибку: пропускает окончание множественного числа).

—        -s.

—        …daughters. Two daughters.

—        Okay. This is the father, and the daughter. This is the father, and the son. When we talk about their relationship (соединяет стрелочкой маму и папу) this is the husband, and this is the wife. They are connected. What about their relationship here (показывает на детей)? This is the brother, and this is the sister. So my question for you is “Do you have brothers and sisters?” Yes or no? Do you..?

—        Yes, I do.

—        How many brothers and sisters do you have?

—        I have one brother. I have one sister. I have one brother and… I have brother and sister (обратите внимание на пропуск артикля, Дженнифер исправит эту ошибку в своей реплике).

—        I have a brother and a sister. Or: I have one brother and one sister. So again: do you have brothers and sisters?

—        Yes.

—        My one question could be “Do you have…?” “-Yes, I do / No, I don’t.” “Do you have brothers and sisters” — Yes, I do.” How many? How many brothers and sisters do you have?(обратите внимание на разницу между общим вопросом и специальным вопросом Сколько?).

—        I have one brother and one sister.

—        Good. So now you ask me. The first question is “Do you..?” Yes or no? If I say yes, then you can ask me how many? One, two, three, four… So what’s the first question you ask me?

—        Do you have brother and sister? (обратите внимание на ошибку: лучше употребить множественное число, чем единственное).

—        Do you have brothers and sisters? Again.

—        Do you have brothers and sisters?

—        Yes, I do.

—        How many brother and sister do you have? (Наташа опять употребляет единственное число вместо множественного).

—        Good. But it’s still plural. How many brothers and sisters do you have? Again.

—        How many brothers and sisters do you have?

—        I have three brothers and no sisters.

—        Good.

—        Natasha, do you know… You know President Obama and his wife Michelle Obama. How many children do they have?

—        He…. Ah…

—        Because it’s Obama and his wife… they…

—        They have two children.

—        Are they boys or girls? Do you know?

—        They have two girls.

—        They have two girls (обратите внимание на произношение этого слова Дженнифер). They have two daughters. What about Tom Cruise and his wife? Do they have children?

—        He has one children… (будьте внимательны, снова ошибка: множественное число вместо единственного).

—        One!

—        One daughter?

—        One child. One daughter. If you want to talk about only Tom Cruise, I wouldn’t use they. I’d say he. So the question could be “How many children does he have?” (Если Наташа хочет говорить только о Томе Крузе, то не нужно использовать they, нужно he. Вопрос будет звучать по-другому). He has one girl. So you see the question: How many do you have…? How many do they have…? How many does he have…? (Дженнифер еще раз перечисляет возможные варианты вопроса),

What about Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton? How many children do they have?

—        They have one daughter.

—        They have one daughter. Chelsea. Good. Okay.

Послушайте и повторите (постарайтесь точно имитировать произношение Дженнифер, значение слова подскажет картинка): husband, wife, family, mother, father, son, mother, daughter, daughters, sister, sisters, brother, sister, mother, father, parents, mother, son, grandmother, grandson/grandchild, grandfather, granddaughter/grandchild.

Образуйте вопросы. Давайте сделаем образец вместе. Вот ответ: They have two children. Каким будет вопрос? How many + [существительное во множественном числе] + have? Образуем его по этой модели: How many children do they have?

Теперь вы.

  1. She has one brother. — How many brothers does she have?
  2. She has one brother and one sister. — How many brothers and sisters does she have?
  3. They have one child. — How many children do they have?
  4. He has two grandchildren. — How many grandchildren does he have?

-Red.

-Red. What color is your… ?

-Black.

-Black. What color are the socks?

-Blue. Dark-blue.

-What color is this?

-Green.

-Green. Light? Light-green. You’re right. Blue and blue: you’re right, there’s a difference between light – dark. This is light-blue. This is dark-blue. Oh, we have yellow, yes. Oh, we have pink. And do you see my shirt? (Обратите внимание на то, как обозначаются оттенки при помощи слов light – dark).

-Brown.

-Yes.

-White.

-Oh, white. You have a white shirt. How about your pants?

-Gray.

-Gray. Mouse-gray. Listen and repeat: orange, red, black, blue, green, yellow, pink, brown, white, gray. Natasha, do you say this? These? This shirt – these socks. Now we can say the color, for example, This is a shirt, this is a yellow shirt. These are blue socks. Can you tell about this?

-This is a blue shirt.

-This is a blue shirt. I’m going to give you clothes, and you’ll tell me a sentence. Okay? This is a blue shirt.

-This is orange t-shirt. (Обратите внимание на пропуск артикля, сейчас Дженнифер подскажет, как исправить ошибку).

-This is an…

-This is an orange t-shirt. This is white t-shirt. (Будьте внимательны: ошибочный пропуск артикля).

-This is a t-shirt. This is a shirt. So this is a…

-…white shirt. This is pink dress. (Наташа опять  пропускает артикль).

-This is a pink dress.

-This is a green skirt. This is red shirt. Be careful: this is a…

-The are blue jeans. (Еще одна неправильность: не the, а they или these).

-Good. They are blue jeans. Or these are blue jeans.

Давайте повторим цвета. Ответьте на вопросы. Я буду спрашивать What color…? Вы будете отвечать It’s…  или They’re... и говорить цвет. Давайте начнем. После того, как вы самостоятельно назовете цвет, я дам правильный ответ для проверки.

  1. What color is the skirt? — It’s green.
  2. What color are the boots? — They’re brown.
  3. What color is the shirt? — It’s orange.
  4. What color is the tie? — It’s purple.
  5. What color are the socks? — They’re white and gray.
  6. What color is the hat? — It’s red.
  7. What color is the sweater? — It’s blue.

-Wednesday. Today is Wednesday.

-What is today’s date? (Какое число/дата?)

-February, 28? not? 29Th.

-So, what month is it? (Месяц?)

-February.

-What year is it? (Год?)

-Two thousand twelve (2012).

-Sometimes we ask the question “How many?” We’re counting. How many days are there in a week?

-Seven days.

-Seven./There are seven days. We can change this question. How many days are there in a month? Or in February? So one question could be “How many days are there in a month?” “-Could be 29 or 28, 30, 31.” How many days are there in January?

-Thirty-first.

-We’re just counting. We don’t say thirty-first. Thirty-one. If we’re just counting how many days – one day, two days… three days… you tell me thirty-one days. There are thirty-one days in January. But if I ask you “What is today’s date?” and it’s 31, the answer is “It’s January, 31st.” For dates we’ll say 29th, 31st. But if we’re just counting how many, then we don’t say ninth or first, we say nine or one. How many days are there in January? -Thirty-one. How many days are there in April? Do you know? (Когда мы считаем, то не говорим «тридцать первый», говорим «тридцать один». На вопрос «Какое число?» можно ответить «Тридцать первое»).

-I think there’s thirty.

-Okay. I can change this question. How many days are there in a year?

-Three hundred sixty-five.

-Yes. Three hundred sixty-five. And how many month are there in a year?

-Twelve.

-Twelve. Okay. Good.

Будни и выходные дни

-For many people there are five workdays in a week: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Those are workdays. For our children we call them school days. “Mom, is today a school day? -Yes, today is a school day.” Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday are school days. For adults it’s a workday. What about Saturday and Sunday? That’s the weekend.  (Для многих людей в неделе существует пять рабочих дней: понедельник, вторник, среда, четверг, пятница. Для детей это — учебные дни. Для взрослых это — рабочие дни. А что такое суббота и воскресенье? Выходные, или конец недели).

We could also talk about weekdays. They’re different. So see the weekend is Saturday and Sunday. Weekdays are… Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Weekdays and weekend. We talk about on the weekend or on a weekday. Children go to school on weekdays. Or on a weekday. We don’t work usually on the weekend. We’re home on the weekend. When do your children go to school?

-On weekdays.

-On weekdays. Today go to school. How many days do they go to school? Five days?

-Five days.

-So they go to school on Monday, Tuesday…

-Four days.

-Four days? Which days?

-Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

-My children go to school five days a week.

Любовь и брак: урок к Дню Св. Валентина

Позвольте показать вам некоторые выражения, связанные с любовью и браком.  Итак, наша тема: «Любовь и брак»

Посмотрите видеофрагмент и послушайте. В следующем клипе вы услышите выражение pop the question. Попытайтесь догадаться, что оно означает.

Are you married?

-Yes.

-How long have you been married?

-We got married in 2001.

-Do you remember how you popped the question?
-Yes. I took my then girlfriend to the beach and we walked out to a rocky point and I got down on one knee is best I could and I pulled out a ring. And I asked her if she would marry.

Итак, что означает выражение pop the question?

а) пригласить кого-то на свидание;

б) сделать предложение о замужестве;

в) спросить кого-то о его/ее возрасте;

г) попросить кого-то поцеловать вас.

Выберите правильное определение. Ответ: это выражение означает «предложить выйти замуж» (to ask someone to marry you). Например, He got down on one knee, pulled out a ring and popped the question.

Посмотрите и послушайте еще один фрагмент. В нем вам попадется выражение exchange vows. Попытайтесь понять его значение.

-Where did you do exchange vows?

-We got married on locals island in the Bay in Massachusetts.

Итак, выражение exchange vows означает:

а) любовно смотреть друг на друга;

б) дать друг другу свои телефонные номера, адреса и т. д.;

в) поцеловаться;

г) пожениться, провести церемонию бракосочетания.

Выберите правильное определение. Ответ: это выражение имеет значение «пожениться, провести церемонию бракосочетания» (to get married, to have a wedding ceremony). Например, They exchange vows on a beautiful island. Обратите внимание на значение слова vow. Это тихое, но очень особенное обещание: молодожены дают обещание любить друг друга и заботиться друг о друге до конца своей жизни.

Поэтому приведенный пример можно понять и так, что они провели церемонию бракосочетания на прекрасном острове.

Посмотрите и послушайте фрагмент, в котором вам встретится слово honeymoon. Ваша задача —  угадать его значение.

Did you have a honeymoon?
-Yes, we had our honeymoon at Martha’s vineyard.

Honeymoon имеет значение:

а) прекрасная погода;

б) подвенечное платье;

в) свадебное путешествие;

г) романтический танец.

Выберите правильное значение. Ответ: honeymoon – это свадебное путешествие/отпуск (wedding trip/vacation). То есть это поездка, в которую люди отправляются сразу после свадьбы. Например, They went to Matha’s vineyard for their honeymoon.

Обратите внимание, что мы используем слово honeymoon с различными глаголами. Посмотрите на следующие фразы:

Go somewhere on your honeymoon.

Spend your honeymoon somewhere.

Have your honeymoon somewhere.

Take your honeymoon somewhere.

Ну что ж, давайте попробуем выполнить упражнение.

Закончите предложение, употребив одно из изученных выражений. Каждое из них должно быть использовано только один раз. Напоминаем, что нужно выбрать из следующего списка:

-pop the question;

-exchange vows;

-honeymoon.

  1. Ellen and David decided to go to Hawaii on their __. They’ll spend 10 days traveling to the different islands. Правильный ответ: honeymoon.
  2. Did you know that in Las Vegas you can __ in a helicopter over the city? How many people can say that they had their wedding in the air? Правильный ответ: exchange vows.
  3. Benjamin was ready to __. He has been practicing what he was going to say to his girlfriend every day for over a week. Правильный ответ: pop the question.

Jennifer: We know that today is… February 29. What’s the year?

Natasha: -2012.

-February 29, 2012. But this is the month, the day, and the year. But I also want to talk about which day of the week it is. If I focus on this, the question is “What is today’s date?” February 29. Can you ask this question?

-What is today’s date?

-February 29.

-But today is Wednesday. That question is different: “What day is today?”You can say “What day is today?” or “What day of the week is it?” Usually in conversation we ask, “What day is today?.. Is today Wednesday?” “What day of the week is it?” is also possible. So what day is today? (Вопрос о дне недели звучит иначе. Дженнифер дает разные варианты).

-Wednesday.

-Okay. We have twelve months, four seasons, three hundred sixty-five days… How many days of the week are there?

-Twenty…?

-Okay. That’s how many days in a month but I want to know how many days in one week.

-Seven.

-Seven. So we need to practice the seven days of the week. When we talk about seven days of the week here in the United States, for us the first day of the week is Sunday. It’s different. In Russia what’s the first day of the week?

-Monday.
